Since 2016 I have been the chairman of the education committee of my study program. At first, I was student chairman, and this transitioned into general chairmanship.
Together with the committee I contributed to the quality of our education. We kept a close eye on everything that happens within the study program. I did all of this in cooperation with other students and teachers by guaranteeing and improving the quality where necessary. We worked together as colleagues during and outside of our meetings. Working alongside teachers and staff members helps me get a broader perspective on our education and not just from a student point of view. That way we could all contribute something together.
We often checked if students and teachers were satisfied and if the program was still up to date. We reviewed regulations and analyzed if these are being carried out correctly. We also came up with new ideas to keep the program on point with the innovations of the work field. We have read through and adjusted the overall regulations of the program every year. It always took a lot of meetings and hard work to do this precisely. However, it was always very satisfactory to see that our input was being appreciated and helped sustain the quality of our education.
Besides learning a lot during meetings, we also got the chance to participate in workshops that helped us perform better as board members and professionals. I have gotten the chance to follow workshops like Personal Leadership, Networking & Lobbying, Collective Collaboration, Conflict Management and Planning & Time management. We also often met up with board members of other study programs to discuss experiences and learn from each other.
Being the chairman and part of this board, has taught me great leadership skills. I had to create structure and see to it that everything was arranged well. It has also taught me to acknowledge problems, see what is really important and find a solution. I also feel like it has taught me how to take initiative and be confident in sharing my ideas. This position is all about trying to change the current for a better future.
