In February 2020 I started working on my graduation Bachelor thesis in Ogden, Utah in the United States.

In five months, I performed thorough research for the Weber State University athletics department. This research was focused on answering the research question: ‘What is the relation between using the mascot of Weber State Athletics, Waldo, and creating more commitment within the community?’.

I was able to answer this question through my research. I then created an in-depth strategy report that helps Weber State Athletics create more commitment in the community. This was all part of my bachelor thesis and included the extensive research, the strategy, an implementation plan, and it was finished with a final presentation.

Besides working on my thesis, I also worked on social media communication projects throughout this period of time for Weber State. Additionally, I created a content calendar and social media guide for the department. My thesis was assessed by officials of the Communication department of Fontys University of Applied Sciences. It was graded a 9.0/10 and it won the prize of best thesis of the class of 2020.

My time at Weber State taught me how to work in a hectic environment, partly by graduating during the COVID-19 pandemic in a foreign country. This has ensured that I know how to deal with stress and chaos, and still deliver a quality product. In the end, even in this hectic situation, I managed to create a detailed report that I am proud of.

Being able to graduate in the U.S. with it being such a diverse place, with many different cultures and people living there, was a great opportunity. It gave me the chance to learn even more about cultural and international differences and to get to know another culture up close. It also gave me the chance to put everything I have learned the previous years to the test and I am happy with how it turned out.
