In February 2018 I started my internship at Maastricht Convention Bureau, a company that focuses on getting international, medical conventions to Maastricht. During that internship I worked as a full-time employee in an international environment for twenty weeks. In these weeks I was able to complete various tasks.

It was a very rewarding internship, in which I was able to learn and grow a lot as a person and as a professional. As a communication professional, I was able to develop myself professionally and learn what my qualities are. I learned to approach different target groups, I developed a substantive communication plan, tracked and profiled the social media channels more profoundly, I was responsible for the copy writing and also maintained and edited the website and learned many other things.

In addition, I also learned how life in the office works and I am glad I was able to learn this at MCB. Besides that, I had to work with people from different countries, mostly those close to us like Germany and Belgium. But I learned that even in countries close to us, the culture can already differ quite a lot. I loved learning more about that international aspect of the work field, so I knew I wanted to keep this international trend going in my educational and professional career.

During this internship I also got to know my own creative side. This was the first time I really got the chance to develop it and most importantly, develop my creative thinking skills. I learned how to think ā€˜outside of the box’ and to play around with ideas until the perfect one comes up. Or how to combines several ideas until the right one emerges. Besides that, I got the opportunity to design a lot of presentations and images. This triggered my creativity and showed me a side of myself that I had not discovered before.

Another important thing I got to know during this internship is how the business world works. I got to attend a lot of business and networking events where I had to step out of my comfort zone to be a professional and make valuable connections. This was something I had been wanting to learn for a long time and at MCB I finally got the chance to do so. This is something that I still view as a very helpful skill that I learned and will take with me for the rest of my career.
